- Trial date for Baha’i leaders has been set

According to information conveyed by the authorities in Evin prison to the family members of the seven Baha’is who have been imprisoned in Tehran, Iran, for over a year, their trial date has been set for 11 July 2009. This information has been provided to the family members only orally and, as information conveyed by officials concerning the judicial process has often proved unreliable, it is possible that the Iranian authorities may find some reason to change the trial date.
The seven were arrested in the spring of 2008 and have been held more than a year without formal charges or access to their attorneys. Official Iranian news reports have said the Baha’is will be accused of “espionage for Israel, insulting religious sanctities and propaganda against the Islamic Republic.”
The trial is apparently scheduled to be held at Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court. This is where American-Iranian journalist Roxana Saberi was recently convicted of espionage and sentenced to 8 years imprisonment. She was eventually released, but only after an international outcry at the clear politicization of the case and manifestly unjust legal procedures.
“These seven individuals are facing completely false charges,” said Bani Dugal, the principal representative of the Baha’i International Community to the United Nations. “They – along with the some 30 other Baha’is currently in prison in Iran – are innocent of any wrongdoing and are being held solely because of their religious beliefs.”

Suggestion: July 11, is two days after the anniversary of the martyrdom of the Bab. Let’s pray for Friends of Iran in our commemorations all over the world.
Thank you IPW for sharing this important news.

Will the bruised authority of the Iranian government deign to be moved by “international outcry” over their preferred scapegoats? How much international outcry must occur for Baha’i prisoners to obtain justice in Iran?
Is justice in their situation possible? Yes, Baha’is the world over will pray on July 9 at Noon in the Name of One who gave His Life at Tabriz, that the ears of the mankind could be opened to the clarion call of Justice.

Sacrificing the imprisoned Baha’is by the Qajar dynasty of Aya Ali Khamenei (Nasir-idin Shah) and Aya Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani (Amir Kabir) shows how destitude Shi’a-Khamenei has become that in order to unify itself calls for sacrificing your imprisoned coreligionists. This Shi’a-Khamenei is not the Shi’a of our forefathers or of the Shi’a-Imam Husayn. The actions of this Shi’a-Khamenei and its followers are the same as the actions of Yazid and Shemr hiding under the banner of Islam in Karbala and none other than the actions of Nasir-idin Shah and his Amir Kabir in Tabriz and as we also have witnessed them again more recently in the news coming from Iran. What awaits them is no other destiny other than that of their illustrious predecesdors, Yazid and Shemr. I hope you Baha’is include these two Ayas in your prayers and ask God to forgive their souls for the crimes the have comitted in the past 30 years against not only the Baha’is but also against all Iranians.

The amazing truth of the matter is this, dear Ali-Jan;
The IRI’s systematic persecution is like spring rain falling on a forest of seedlings that are destined to become a forest of mighty oaks. Those who seek to harm the Greatest Name will find that they only help it. So it was with Husayn, (Blessed be His Name) whose martyrdom is fulfilled by the life of Baha’u'llah. We will cry out against injustice where it is found and accept the necessary sacrifices. The seven Baha’is prisoners of Evin are leading us forward with their faith and love for all, including their own captors. This is our “weapon”; love is the greatest power we have. Baha’u'llah has promised us that this age is the “day” that shall never see “night.” This gives us the confidence to know that no sacrifice, no effort taken to assist this Cause shall be in vain.

The irony SB Jaan is that Imam Husayn and Imam Hassan never once rose their sword against the Persians and in fact married the daughters of the deposed King of Persia as a sign of their respect for Persian culture and Persian women. Yet these Ayas who in the name of Shi’a have corrupted the religion of Islam and have created through their own corrupt and ignorant interpretations sects and followers for themselves (Shi’a-Khamenei, Shi’a-Yazdi, Shi’i-Rafelsenjani, etc.) everyday for the past 30 years have raised their swords and have butchered Iranian women, men and children with absolute disregard for any and all human rights. In their opinion there are no humans in Iran except those who blindly follow them. And as such no human rights exists in Iran as the world has so vividly witnessed it over the past few weeks. Where Imam Husayn kneeled in front of Persians, these who preach in his name Kill Persians. Where your religion preaches love of humanity, these Ayas batton humans.

Ali-Jaan, excellent, insightful point. ‘Abdu’l Baha said in his lectures series in Paris, 1912 that there are “forces of darkness” that rise from the world of materiality to exercise tyranny against the light of truth. It is happening before our eyes.
Nevertheless, we know from whence cometh the truth: Iran is a vast and noble land with a people to be envied for their heritage and their future. Jamal-i Mubarak has told us: “Soon will the present-day order be rolled up, and a new one spread out in its stead.”

Perhaps we’ll hear about the trial on the news since Iran is a major focus these days.
