The Threat of Genocide to the Baha’is of Iran

sentinelThe Sentinel Project has released a report highlighting the risk of genocide to Iranian Baha’is. The document, entitled “Preliminary Assessment: The Threat of Genocide to the Baha’is of Iran,” details background information, the preconditions for genocide in Iran, the potential perpetrators, and triggers. The level of genocidal development is assessed according to the well-known “Eight Stages of Genocide Model” developed by Dr. Gregory Stanton. The threat level is high and this report offers little good news, but understanding the threat is the first step to reducing it and preventing genocide in Iran.

“This situation has made Iranian Baha’is an extremely vulnerable, dehumanized, and threatened minority. The Iranian government appears bent on destroying the Baha’i religion itself and coercing its followers to convert to Islam but it is also highly likely that, under certain circumstances, they may turn to even more violent means and seek to physically exterminate the Baha’i population.”

The world nor the people of Iran will not allow for such actions to take place. They have to learn that the Baha’i faith is a world religion and not merely confined to Iran.

Please tell us what the “the Sentinel Project” is. Who are these people?

Thank you for publishing this. The only ting we can do here in the West is to raise public awareness. What has been going on in Semnan in the past few months attests to the validity of the warnings that this piece is making.

About the Sentinel Project from their website:
“The Sentinel Project is a registered non-profit organization which confronts the greatest human security problem that the world faces today – genocide.

Our mission is “to prevent the crime of genocide worldwide through effective early warning and cooperation with victimized peoples to carry out non-violent prevention initiatives.”

There are many organizations dedicated to stopping genocide, but the Sentinel Project is different. What sets us apart is our dedication to working with victimized peoples to prevent their own genocides in a self-help framework, rather than just lobbying national governments and the United Nations to stage interventions that never happen.”

To stop the genocide from happening the revolution needs to succeed. Right now the Bahai members will be tried soon. There are 5 men and 2 women. These are people who obey the laws of Iran. Thye have committed no crime. They are like the early Muslims at the time of Mohammed who taught his followers to protect the Christian communities. Those who believe in freedom of religion in Iran must succeed and should not stop until it is accomplished.
