Thank you very much Dr. Vahdati for your beautiful article. There will be volumes and volumes of books about the tyrannies committed by these so called religious leaders. The grandchildren of these rulers will be ashamed of their forefathers.

I was thinking of a small insignificant memory - compared to the atrocities inflicted by these rulers. My sister was imprisoned because of her belief in Baha’i Faith. My mother went to one of the top clergies to ask for justice. When she told him that she is a Baha’i and has come for her daughter’s case, His Excellency, started spitting on the floor (spreading his germs), to clean the air from the defilement caused by my mom mentioning the word “Baha’i”.

The problem of human rights and prejudice are the issues of the whole world, not only of Iran. No country, race or religion is immune. Labels are applied everywhere by extremist groups with agendas to create hate and discord. It is the sacred duty of all forward-minded citizens of the world to speak out against such labels and related rapes of truth. Only such courage, and I know from personal experience it takes a great deal of courage ... only the courage to educate, by speaking out against slander and propaganda, will begin to change hearts, one by one, toward seeing all humanity as one in the sight of God. Only when we reach critical mass in the change of attitudes, will steps toward acceptance, peace and upholding human rights be possible. Until then we will each, individually, need to find the courage to risk losing friends, to risk the intolerance of our neighbours, in a true sense to find and use ourvoices. In Canada we say "It's a dirty job but someone has to do it."

John, We are Persians! We don't want our country to be downgraded to North Korea's level any more than it has under Aya Khamenei's 28 year long dictatorship.

Tens of thousands of Iranians suffer under the yoke of autocratic, theocratic, and and intolerant militants. The only way out, in the short-term, is exodus. The long-term approach is quiet rapprochement. Open negotiations with America would be an embarrassment to the regime. What must be done, must be done with utmost circumspection and serenity.

Consider North Korea. Its religion is the religion of the state, the rule of the strong man. It has been under the spotlight for years and exposure only causes them to react even more violently and aggressively. How is Iran different in this respect?

"Can’t we look at one another and respect each other as human beings, irrespective of our convictions? Can we let words such as apostate, irreligious, Baha’i or Israeli not be considered to be profane?"

May that day come soon within every faith, including Baha'i.
