Baha’i Sentenced in Semnan

The following update was posted on the online site of Human Rights Activists News Agency on Wednesday, September 2, 2009. 

HRA News Agency reports: A Baha’i resident of Semnan was sentenced to imprisonment, monetary fine and exile.

The court ruling against Mr. Ali Ehsani, who was previously tried on June 9, 2009, was communicated to him.  In accordance with this ruling, he is sentenced to 2 years imprisonment and a cash fine of 5 million rials [equivalent of US$500].  Furthermore, after his release from prison, he is to be exiled for 2 years to another town.

It should be noted that Ali Ehsani was arrested in April on the charge of “propaganda against the regime” and “activities against national security”, and was incarcerated for two months.  He was eventually released under condition of bail and surety, and was free until his June trial.
