Afshin Ighani appeared at Semnan Prison after his 4 year, 3 month and 1 day prison sentence was upheld by the appeals court to begin serving his sentence.

Afshin Ighani was arrested on January 5, 2010 and was released on bail on February 28, 2010. He was convicted of the charges of disturbing national security and of the charge of propaganda against the regime by supporting anti-regime groups. The issued verdict also indicated that all possessions of Mr. Ighani which are related to his charges will be confiscated.

On March 12, 2009, Ministry Intelligence agents has visited Mr Ighani’s shops, confiscated half of his goods ans asked him to sell the remaining items before start of Iranian new year (March 21).

He has been sentenced to 4 years in prison for membership in the illegal Baha’i group and for participating in religious ceremonies.

According to the Human Rights House of Iran, he has been detained several times and was held in solitary confinement during his arrest in 2009 for 57 days.

The appeals court upheld his sentence. He has been transferred to Semnan Prison. His brother in law Ali Ehsani is another Baha’i citizen who is held in Semnan Prison.

The authorities raided the houses of Zohreh Tabyanian, Pouya Tabyanian, Taraneh Ehsani and Elham Motoarefi and searched their houses illegally. They confiscated their belongings and transferred them to an unknown location.

According to the Human Rights House of Iran, Pouya Tabyanian had been released a few months ago after 14 months of detention.

According to the Human Rights House of Iran, there has been no report as to her whereabouts.

On February 20^th, 4 Baha’i citizens by the names of Zohreh Nikayeen, Elham Roozbehi, TAraneh Torabi and Pouya Tabayanian were arrested after searching their houses and confiscating their books, CDs, documents and computers.

Siamak Ighani is also serving his 3 year prison sentence since a few months ago.

RAHANA: Last night, the enforcement unit of the Semann Court told Sholeh Taef to refer to the court. After appearing at the court, she was informed that she has to be transferred to prison to serve her one year sentence.
According to RAHANA, the person in charge of the enforcement unit of the Semnan Court had sent her a letter earlier, stating that she had to appear at Evin Prison in Tehran on Saturday to begin serving her one year prison sentence.

According to the RAHANA reporter, security officials raided his workplace and transferred him to the Semnan Intelligence Ministry after searching the place.

His arrest comes after the temporary release if Rofia Bidaghi, another Baha’i citizen. Fanaian served a 6 month prison sentence last year but he was detained once again for unknown reasons.

Currently, 3 female Baha’i citizens and 3 male citizens are in prison. Siamak Ighani, Behnam Motoarefi and Adel Fanaian are in Semnan Prison. Sahba Rezvani, Manijeh Monzavian and Sousan Tabayanian have been transferred to the Evin prison in order to serve their sentence. A number of other Semnan Baha’i citizens are awaiting their sentence. They have been charged with anti-regime propaganda through Baha’i propaganda.

According to information from HARANA reporters, on Sunday, 16th Aban 1389 [7 Nov 2010], officers from the Information Office of Semnan invaded the workplace (stationary store) of a Baha’i resident called Rufia Beydaghi, arrested her and took her to Semnan prison.

It should be mentioned that during the days since her arrest, she has had no contact with her family. Similarly, the family’s attempts to learn the fate of their daughter have not been successful, and they have merely been told that their daughter must remain in prison for a few days, and then a decision will be made about her.

It is worth noting that in the sixties [1981-1991] as an infant, Rufia Beydaghi spent some time in prison along with her mother (Farzaneh Malekzadeh), charged with being a Baha’i.

Bahá’í Citizen of Semnan, Rufiyaa Baidaghi has been arrested by the Security Forces.

According to RAHANA reporter, On Saturday November 7th, Security Forces proceeded to arrest Rufiyaa Baidaghi, she is the daughter of Mr. Goodarz Baidaghi who had been arrested on February and only recently released.

It should be mentioned that, there are currently six Bahá’í citizens incarcerated in Semnan and a number of others are awaiting court rulings.

Siamak Ighani a Bahá’í resident of Semnan was transferred to the City’s prison to begin his 3 year prison term.

According to RAHANA News Agency, Siamak Ighani who had previously been sentenced to 3 years in prison charged with ‘Teaching the Bahá’í Faith and Propaganda Against the Regime’, was transferred to Semnan prison on Saturday November 6th to begin his incarceration.

It should be noted that five other Bahá’í citizens are currently behind bars in Semnan under similar charges.

(HRA News, 25 Sep 2010) Ali Ehsani, a Baha’i resident of the city of Semnan, was arrested on his way to work, and given a sentence of two years imprisonment.

According to HRA reporters, Ali Ehsani, a Baha’i living in Semnan, was first arrested in 1388 (2009) on charges of teaching the Baha’i faith and being a threat to national security due to his participation in Baha’i activities. He was then released with a sentence of two years probation and two years of exile from Semnan. On Wednesday, Sharivar 31, 1389 [September 22, 2010], he was arrested at 7 AM while he was going to work, and was immediately transferred to Semnan prison to spend two years of incarceration.

It should be noted that after Ehsani family inquired about his arrest, officials told them that they had had to arrest him in the street, since they didn’t know where he lived. However, Semnan is a very small city, and Ali Ehsani had been arrested at his home the year before.
